Drug release from a stent into the arterial wall

Transient mass transport calculation of the drug release from a stent coating into the arterial wall. Coupling of the two domains by the description of the fluxes at the interface - weak coupling.

Description

  • Simulation by: Martin Prosi
  • Added: Friday, 25 november 2005
  • References: N/A
  • Comment: The diffusion coefficient (D) of the drug (Heparin) is D1 = 2.2 10^-9 cm^2/s in the arterial wall and D2 = 10^-10 cm^2/s in the stent coating. The boundary conditions: Domain represents a piece of the arterial wall with implanted stent. At the interface c=0.0 is assumed (endothelium is demaged or doesn't exist), at the symmetry planes and the adventitia boundary zero flux conditions are applied.
  • Time stepping: 1209 time steps of 500s (calculation period of the release is 1 week).
